Authentic Halloumi fries with a honey and mustard dip

by Dina

Look, fried halloumi is the best thing in the world! THE BEST! If you haven’t tried it yet then just do it already! You can thank me later. In Cyprus, we usually enjoy it with some fried potatoes and a fried egg along with a moreish Greek salad and sourdough bread. It’s like our fry up but much better haha

So, I have noticed lately that halloumi fries is becoming like a trend for food markets and I love all the creative versions that are out there. Some come with pomegranate molasses and others with mayonnaise. All of them though are simply dipped in some flour before frying. To turn it up a notch, I am going to share our authentic way of frying halloumi (sometimes, simply fried is as delicious!) in the form of halloumi fries! I swear you will ABSOLUTELY love this recipe and you can enjoy this as a starter and even as a movie or football snack. Are you ready??

Right, let’s get cooking my darlings!

For the halloumi fries you will need:

1 halloumi cheese

1/2 cup breadcrumps

2 eggs, beaten

1 cup oil for frying

For the dip :

1/4 cup yogurt

1 tbsp honey

1 tbsp mustard

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp dried mint

salt/pepper to season

pomegranate seeds/fresh mint for serving (optional)

Cut the halloumi cheese in sticks. Beat the two eggs in a bowl and add the breadcrumbs in another bowl. Dip the cheese sticks in the egg first and then coat them with the breadcrumbs.

Heat the oil well to begin to bubble. Fry the halloumi fries and drain on some kitchen paper to get rid of the excess oil.

Enjoy immediately when hot!

For the dip, simply add all the ingredients together to amalgamate. Beat vigorously for the honey to be well incorporated.
